The Yogic Path, Yoga School, was founded by Mira Mehta in 1999. Its approach to Yoga emphasises physical practice rooted in philosophy. Mira Mehta is the principal teacher; she is assisted by qualified and experienced teachers; all have a commitment to the teachings of Yoga. The practical teaching follows the Iyengar method, which is known worldwide for its safe, progressive instruction in a wide range of postures and breath control techniques. Based on detailed, accurate knowledge, the method is also known for its efficacy in treating health problems through Yoga. The philosophy teaching is based closely on primary sources rather than modern interpretations of ancient works. It is taught as a separate, optional subject. For continuity of learning classes are run in 12-week terms, although visitors are welcome, and you may join a class at any time throughout the term. Classes: Progressing in Yoga; Advanced Postures; Introduction to Yoga; Yoga Step by Step; Therapy Yoga (by appointment); Relaxation & Pranayama and Yoga for Children. Workshops: Guidance for Teachers and Principles of Practice. Mira Mehta MPHil(Oxon) is the author of ‘Yoga: the Iyengar Way‘, ‘How to Use Yoga‘, ‘Health through Yoga‘ and ‘Yoga Explained‘. Her teaching draws on her long practice of Yoga since childhood as well as her studies of Yoga philosophy, Sanskrit and Ayurveda. In her classes she explains principles and techniques and links theory to practice. Covering therapeutic methods as well as intermediate and advance poses, her approach is both subtle and energetic. Students are encouraged to ask questions and examine their own experience in order to understand Yoga more deeply. With a clear understanding progress is fast, safe and satisfying. Mira is known also for her skill in applying Yoga therapeutically. She has 25 years‘ experience of helping people with all kinds of health problems, from backache and injuries to chronic conditions like asthma, IBS, fatigue, hypertension and so on. In her remedial teaching she designs Yoga programmes tailored to the individual‘s needs and gives guidance on how to practise safely and effectively at home to manage the condition. Mira‘s workshops explore different themes in order to give a wider perspective on Yoga. Relevant texts (the Yoga Aphorisms and other philosophical works, Hatha Yoga manuals, Ayurveda texts) are used as a basis to explain the topic and their teachings are integrated into the practical work of the workshop.
