Yoga for Teens

As a teenager myself (an older teen, but nonetheless a teen), I am well aware of the hardships that make up these crucial years. Friends, love interests, clothing - it is all of the utmost importance. It is stressful keeping up with what Bobby said to Sarah and why Heather isn't talking to Tracy. It is stressful having pressure to make high marks and produce outstanding school work. It is stressful having to go about your day with hormonal changes altering your moods and changing your thinking.
Whether you're reading this as teen or an adult, it's helpful to know that stresses like these can be dealt with safely and effectively. Simply: yoga.
Choosing a yoga style should be tailored to fit you as an unique individual. The teenage years are filled with personal expression and yoga can certainly facilitate this. If you're one who prefers more of a challenge, Ashtanga or Power yoga is a suitable match. Alternatively, Hatha yoga is a relaxing style appropriate for the ultimate "chill" experience.
Not only will practising yoga help decrease stress levels, as any form of physical activity is proven to do so, but learning simple meditation techniques that accompany yoga will be THAT much more beneficial.
Thanks to yoga, I am finally understanding the importance of breathing correctly (because it is an art form!) and learning to slow down my thoughts and focus on the here and now. The woes and sorrows of my peers no longer affect me as they did before because I feel more grounded and centered with myself.
The teenage years are awkward and trying, but there are ways to lessen the hardships. Yoga may be the answer for you.
